Aadhaar in Bangalore: Fix the Address Before It Breaks Everything Else

An out of date Aadhaar quietly breaks applications you have not made yet.

“Nothing in India fails as expensively as an Aadhaar with an old address on it, because everything else checks against it and nothing tells you why it failed.”

• On the document under all the other documents

Aadhaar has quietly become the reference point for almost every administrative interaction in Bengaluru. It is the login for the Nadakacheri certificate portal. It is the identity check behind bank accounts, scholarship transfers, property registrations and ration cards. It is the seeding that decides whether a direct benefit transfer lands or bounces.

Which means an Aadhaar with the wrong address, an unlinked mobile number or a name spelled differently from your other documents does not fail loudly. It fails weeks later, in an application you thought was unrelated, with a rejection that does not mention Aadhaar at all.

This guide covers the practical side: which updates you can do online and which need a centre, where the centres in Bengaluru are, what each thing costs, how long it takes, how many times you are allowed to change certain fields, and the new Aadhaar app. Fees and rules are revised by UIDAI periodically, so verify the current position on the official site before setting out.

What Can I Update Online and What Needs a Centre?

Address can generally be updated online through the self service portal with a registered mobile number, and the mobile number itself can now be changed in the new Aadhaar app. Biometrics and photograph still require a centre visit in person.

  • Address: online, usually. Through myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in, with a valid proof of address uploaded and an OTP to your registered mobile. This is the update most people need and the easiest one to do.
  • Mobile number: app or centre. UIDAI's new Aadhaar app now lets you change it from your phone with face authentication, as long as the old number still receives an OTP. If the old SIM is gone, or you never registered a number, it is still a centre visit.
  • Biometrics: centre only. Fingerprints and iris. Also required for children at five and fifteen, and sometimes for adults whose fingerprints no longer read reliably.
  • Photograph: centre only. Captured fresh at the centre.
  • Name: centre in most cases. With supporting documentary proof, and subject to limits on how many times it can be changed.
  • Date of birth: centre, with strict proof. Tightly controlled and limited. Documentary proof is required and the change is not routine.
  • Gender: centre, limited. Also subject to a limit on the number of changes.
  • Email: online. Through the self service portal, along with the address.

“Update the mobile number first. Without an OTP arriving, you cannot do any of the online updates, and you cannot log in to half the state portals either.”

• On the order to do things in

How Do I Update My Aadhaar Address in Bengaluru?

Online through the self service portal, with a proof of address document and an OTP. If your mobile is not registered, that has to be fixed at a centre first.

  • 1. Check your registered mobile works. Try an OTP based login on the portal. If nothing arrives, the number on file is wrong and a centre visit comes first.
  • 2. Get a valid proof of address. UIDAI publishes a list of acceptable documents. A registered rental agreement, a utility bill in your name, a bank statement or a passport are commonly accepted. Check the current list before uploading.
  • 3. Log in at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in. With your Aadhaar number and the OTP.
  • 4. Select the address update. Enter the new address exactly as it appears on your proof document. Mismatches between the typed address and the document are the commonest cause of rejection.
  • 5. Upload the proof. A clear scan of the full document, within the stated file limits.
  • 6. Pay the fee and save the URN. The update request number on the acknowledgement is how you track it. Save it.
  • 7. Track and then download the updated Aadhaar. Once the update is processed, download the current version rather than continuing to use an old printout.

Where Are the Aadhaar Centres in Bangalore?

Dedicated Aadhaar Seva Kendras, plus enrolment and update facilities hosted at banks, post offices and some government offices. The locator on the official site is the only reliable list.

Centre locations and operators change, which is why publishing a list here would be doing you a disservice. Use the locator on uidai.gov.in, filter for your area, and check what services each centre offers, because not every centre does every update.

Book an appointment where the centre allows it. Aadhaar Seva Kendras take online appointments and the difference between an appointment and a walk in on a Saturday morning in Bengaluru is measured in hours. Carry originals and photocopies of whatever documents your update requires.

What Does Each Update Cost and How Long Does It Take?

Rs 75 for a demographic update and Rs 125 for a biometric update at a centre, revised from November 1, 2025, with new enrolment free. The online document update on myAadhaar is free until June 14, 2027. Processing is commonly quoted at up to around thirty days, though many updates complete considerably faster.

Fees are set by UIDAI and revised from time to time, so check the current schedule rather than relying on what somebody paid last year. A centre charging materially more than the published fee is overcharging, and the published schedule is displayed at legitimate centres.

Keep the acknowledgement slip with the update request number until the change appears in your downloaded Aadhaar. It is the only proof that the request was made, and it is what any follow up will require.

What About Aadhaar for Children?

Children under five get a Baal Aadhaar without biometrics, linked to a parent. A mandatory biometric update follows at age five, and another at fifteen.

These mandatory updates catch families out constantly, because nothing prompts you. A child's Aadhaar without the age five biometric update can fail authentication in exactly the situations where it matters, school admissions and scholarship processes among them.

Put both dates in a calendar when the child is enrolled. The updates are straightforward at a centre and are typically free or nominal when done within the expected window.

“Two calendar reminders when your child is enrolled, at five and at fifteen. Nothing else in the Aadhaar system will remind you.”

• On the update nobody tells parents about

How Many Times Can I Change My Name or Date of Birth?

Both are limited over the lifetime of an Aadhaar, and date of birth in particular is tightly controlled. Treat each change as one of a very small number you will ever get.

This is worth knowing before you make a casual correction. If your name appears three different ways across your documents, work out which version you want everywhere before you spend one of your Aadhaar name changes on a version you will later want to change again.

Where a limit has been exhausted and a genuine correction is still needed, UIDAI has an exception handling process involving regional offices. It is slower and requires proper documentation, which is another argument for getting it right the first time.

What Is the New Aadhaar App and Should I Use It?

UIDAI's new Aadhaar app is replacing the older mAadhaar app. It holds a digital Aadhaar, handles mobile number updates with face authentication and lets you lock your biometrics. Worth installing.

  • A digital Aadhaar you always have. Accepted in most situations that ask for the card, and it saves carrying a printout that is going grey in your wallet.
  • Time based OTPs. Useful when the network is poor and an SMS is not arriving, which is not a rare situation.
  • Biometric locking. You can lock your biometrics so they cannot be used for authentication until you unlock them. A sensible default if you rarely use biometric authentication.
  • Multiple profiles. Family members' Aadhaars can be held in one app, which is genuinely convenient for a household.
  • Use the official app only. There are imitations. Install from the official store listing published by UIDAI and nowhere else.

What Is the Document Update UIDAI Keeps Asking For?

UIDAI periodically asks holders of older Aadhaars to re submit proof of identity and proof of address, to keep the underlying records current. It is a refresh rather than a change.

If your Aadhaar was issued many years ago and you have never updated anything, this probably applies to you. It can be done online through the self service portal, where it is free until June 14, 2027 under a UIDAI memorandum of May 13, 2026. At a centre the same update costs Rs 75.

Do it when prompted rather than waiting. An Aadhaar flagged as needing a document update is another quiet source of failures in unrelated applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I update my Aadhaar mobile number online?

In most cases, yes. UIDAI's new Aadhaar app lets you change the registered mobile number from your phone using face authentication, for a Rs 75 fee, as long as the old number still receives an OTP. If the old SIM is lost or you never registered a number, you still need an in person visit to an Aadhaar centre, and without a working number you cannot receive the OTPs that state portals depend on.

How do I change my Aadhaar address after moving to Bangalore?

Through the self service portal at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in, logging in with your Aadhaar number and an OTP to your registered mobile, then uploading a valid proof of address. Enter the address exactly as it appears on the proof document, since a mismatch between the typed address and the document is the commonest cause of rejection.

How long does an Aadhaar update take?

Commonly quoted at up to around thirty days, though many updates complete considerably faster. Keep the acknowledgement slip with the update request number until the change appears in your downloaded Aadhaar, since it is the only proof the request was made.

How many times can I change my name on Aadhaar?

Name, gender and date of birth changes are limited in number over the lifetime of an Aadhaar, and date of birth in particular is tightly controlled. Decide which version of your name you want across all your documents before spending one of these changes, because the limits are small and the exception process for exhausted limits is slow.

Does my child's Aadhaar need updating?

Yes. Children under five receive a Baal Aadhaar without biometrics, and a mandatory biometric update is required at age five and again at fifteen. Nothing prompts you, so set calendar reminders at enrolment. A missing biometric update can cause authentication failures in school admissions and scholarship processes.

Where are the Aadhaar centres in Bangalore?

Dedicated Aadhaar Seva Kendras plus facilities hosted at banks, post offices and some government offices. Use the locator on uidai.gov.in rather than any third party list, check which services the centre offers since not all do every update, and book an appointment where possible.

Is mAadhaar worth installing?

Yes. It holds a digital Aadhaar accepted in most situations that ask for the card, generates time based OTPs when SMS is not arriving, and lets you lock your biometrics against unauthorised authentication. Install only the official UIDAI app, since imitations exist.

What happens if my Aadhaar address is out of date?

It rarely fails loudly. It fails later, in an unrelated application, with a rejection that does not mention Aadhaar. Because Aadhaar is the reference point for bank verification, benefit transfers, state certificate portals and property processes, an outdated address quietly undermines all of them.

Official Aadhaar Resources

Use only official UIDAI channels. There is a substantial industry of lookalike sites and apps charging for things that are free or nominal.

Update Stuck or Rejected?

Aadhaar updates get rejected for a short list of reasons, mostly to do with the proof document not matching what was typed.
