“Every new month in Bengaluru comes with a welcome gift. This November, it's a milk bill, a possible bus fare hike and, finally, a pink metro train.”
• Tariq Sallam, The City 24/7
November 2026 brings eight changes that touch almost every Bengaluru household: costlier Nandini milk and curd, caller names on your phone screen, new GST rules for businesses, a possible government bus fare hike, Digi Yatra for international flights, a Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat sleeper, a proposed fee on bigger UPI merchant payments, and the first stretch of the Pink Line metro.
I read about all of this over my Sunday morning coffee (the newspaper in one hand, the now-more-expensive milk in the other) and thought: someone should put this in one place, in plain English, with what it actually means for you. So here it is. Some of these are confirmed, some are proposals, and I've flagged which is which, because "expected" and "happening" are very different words in this city.
Quick Information
Eight changes, one table. Read it before your monthly budget reads you.
How Much Does Nandini Milk Cost Now?
Nandini toned milk now costs Rs 54 a litre, up Rs 8 from Rs 46. The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has also revised curd: the 1 kg packet goes from Rs 54 to Rs 68, and the 500 g packet from Rs 28 to Rs 34. Other milk variants have gone up too.
Why the jump? KMF blames the rising cost of feeding and caring for cattle, from fodder to vet bills. Of the extra Rs 8 you pay, Rs 7 is meant to reach dairy farmers, with Re 1 going to the milk unions. So if the price stings, at least most of it is going to the people who actually look after the cows.
Nandini Price Changes
Old price, then new.
For a family using two litres a day, Rs 8 a litre works out to roughly Rs 480 more a month on toned milk alone (my calculation). Worth a look if you budget tightly, or if your filter coffee habit is as serious as mine.
Will My Phone Show Who Is Calling?
Yes. Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) arrives in November: when an unknown number rings, you'll also see the name it's registered under with the telecom operator. No third-party app, no guesswork about what a stranger saved them as.
You don't need to do anything; it's on by default for 4G and newer networks that support it. The exception is people who already pay to hide their number (Calling Line Identification Restriction). For the rest of us, this could finally make the "Hello, sir, one small offer" call a little easier to dodge.
What Is Changing in GST From 1 November?
If you run a business, two GST changes kick in on 1 November. Give a discount after the sale, and you now issue a credit note while your buyer reverses the matching input tax credit. The good news is on refunds: where your input tax is higher than your output tax (the inverted-duty problem), up to 90% of an eligible claim is now paid out provisionally and automatically. For small manufacturers and traders waiting months on refunds, that's real breathing room.
If you run a business, this is a conversation for your chartered accountant this week, not next quarter.
Are KSRTC and BMTC Bus Fares Going Up?
Possibly. A fare revision for Karnataka's four state transport corporations, which include KSRTC and BMTC, is on the table, with a decision expected on 4 November. Transport Minister Byrathi Suresh has pointed to rising diesel prices and the corporations' finances, and their senior officials meet on 3 November to thrash it out.
Nothing is final yet, so don't panic-buy bus passes. I'll update this page once the decision is out.
Can I Use Digi Yatra for International Flights?
Soon, and from Bengaluru first. Digi Yatra is being tested on a few international departures from Kempegowda International Airport and should go live in November, starting with flights to London, Male and Kuala Lumpur. You'll need the Beta version of the Digi Yatra app.
One important caveat: immigration and the other mandatory checks continue as usual. Digi Yatra speeds up the entry and boarding gates, not the immigration officer. Our full airport guide has the rest of the drill.
When Does the Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper Start?
The Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper starts regular service from 3 November, after an inaugural special from Bengaluru on 1 November. It runs six days a week, every day except Monday, with stops at Anantapur, Guntakal, Raichur, Yadgir, Kalaburagi, Solapur, Pune and Kalyan.
Reports before the launch put the proposed timings at about 7.50pm from SMVT Bengaluru, reaching Mumbai CSMT around 11.55am the next day, with the return leaving Mumbai at about 8.10pm. That's roughly 16 hours across about 1,100 km, in AC three-tier, AC two-tier and AC first class. Confirm the final timings and fares on IRCTC before you book, because launch schedules do shift.
An overnight train that leaves after work and arrives in Mumbai before lunch is a genuine alternative to a 7am flight and a 5am cab to the airport. Your sleep schedule will thank you.
Will I Pay a Fee on UPI Payments?
Not as a customer. What's being proposed is a 0.4% merchant discount rate (MDR) on qualifying payments to merchants above Rs 2,000, from after Deepavali. The shop pays it, never more than Rs 300 a transaction. You paying the kirana, or splitting dinner with a friend, costs you nothing extra.
It's still a proposal. Watch for small shops nudging you towards cash for bigger bills if it comes in, or quietly building the cost into prices.
When Will the Namma Metro Pink Line Open?
This month, if all goes to plan. The elevated first phase of the Pink Line, Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere, has its clearances after years of waiting and is ready to carry passengers in November. Expect trains from 5am to 11pm, with around six trains on the line to start.
The 7.5 km stretch has six stations: Kalena Agrahara, Hulimavu, IIMB, JP Nagar 4th Phase, Jayadeva Hospital and Tavarekere. Jayadeva Hospital is the big one: it's an interchange with the Yellow Line, so Bannerghatta Road commuters can switch towards Electronic City or RV Road. If you've spent the last few years crawling down Bannerghatta Road, this is your moment.
Jayadeva Hospital connects to the Yellow Line from day one. JP Nagar 4th Phase is planned as a future interchange with the Orange Line.
What Should Bengalureans Do This Month?
- Rework the grocery budget. Milk and curd are the easiest place to feel the hike. Check your monthly dairy spend now.
- Talk to your CA. If you run a business, make sure your credit note and input tax credit process is ready.
- Watch the bus fare decision. Expected around 4 November. Daily commuters and monthly pass holders should plan for it.
- Try the Pink Line. Once it opens, even a weekend ride to see how it fits your commute is worth it.
- Book the sleeper early. New Vande Bharat services fill up fast in the first few weeks.
