Namma Metro: the only relationship in this city that has never ghosted me in peak hour.

“The Bangalore Metro isn't just a train. It's the only relationship in this city that has never once ghosted me during peak hour traffic.”

• Tariq Sallam, The City 24/7

There's a very specific kind of joy that only a Bangalorean understands.

The joy of watching your Ola driver quote you a fare that could buy a small vehicle, right before you casually walk 200 metres to the nearest metro station and get to your destination for less than the price of a filter coffee.

That, my friends, is the emotional rollercoaster I like to call "Living With Bangalore Metro."

I've been riding Namma Metro since it was basically a glorified single line that went from "somewhere" to "nowhere in particular."

And I've watched it grow into an actual, functioning, multi-line network that I now genuinely brag about to my cousins in Delhi (who, I admit, still have more stations, but let's not talk about that).

Whether you're a techie who treats the Purple Line like a second home…

A new resident googling "Bangalore Metro map" at 2 AM because you have an interview tomorrow…

Or just someone who wants to know why everyone keeps talking about a Yellow Line like it personally owes them money…

This article is your one-stop, slightly-too-honest guide to the Bangalore Metro.

Grab your smart card (or don't, we'll get to that drama later), and let's get into it.

What Exactly Is the Bangalore Metro?

Namma Metro (literally "Our Metro" in Kannada, because Bangalore doesn't do anything without a healthy dose of local pride) is the rapid transit rail system that's slowly but surely rescuing this city from its love affair with traffic jams.

It's run by BMRCL, and if you've lived here longer than a monsoon season, you already know that "Bangalore traffic" is less a commute and more a lifestyle choice you didn't consciously make.

The Bangalore Metro lines currently in operation are the Purple Line, the Green Line, and the newest kid on the block, the Yellow Line.

Together, they connect a good chunk of the city, though if you live in certain tech-corridor pockets, you will still know the specific pain of an auto driver looking at your pin location like you've personally insulted his family.

Which Bangalore Metro Lines Are Running, and Where Do They Go?

The Purple Line: The OG Show-Off

Bangalore Metro Purple Line map: stations from Whitefield to Challaghatta and interchanges
Purple Line: Whitefield to Challaghatta.

The Purple Line is the Bangalore Metro's original superstar, running roughly 43 km from Whitefield in the east to Challaghatta in the west, with about 38 stations along the way.

It sails through MG Road, Majestic, Indiranagar, and other spots that make up the city's social and commercial spine.

If you've ever needed to get from a fancy brunch on Church Street to a family function near Vijayanagar without losing your will to live in Bangalore traffic, the Purple Line has probably saved your Sunday.

The Green Line: The Reliable Sibling

Bangalore Metro Green Line map: stations from Madavara to Silk Institute
Green Line: Madavara to Silk Institute.

The Green Line runs about 30.5 km from Madavara (via Nagasandra) in the north down to Silk Institute in the south, covering around 32 stations.

It quietly does the unglamorous but essential work of connecting Yeshwanthpur, Rajajinagar, and Jayanagar.

Majestic is where the Purple and Green Lines meet, and honestly, that interchange has seen more of Bangalore's population pass through it than most family weddings.

The Yellow Line Bangalore Metro: Everyone's New Favourite

Yellow Line Bangalore Metro map: RV Road to Bommasandra via Electronic City
Yellow Line: RV Road to Bommasandra.

Ah yes, the one everyone's talking about.

The Yellow Line Bangalore Metro opened in August 2025, and it was basically Bangalore's love letter to its own IT workforce.

Running about 19 km from RV Road to Bommasandra with 16 stations, the Yellow Line finally gives some direct metro relief to the Electronic City crowd.

A demographic that had, until recently, accepted "3 hours in traffic" as a completely normal part of adult life.

The Bangalore Metro Yellow Line map covers key spots like Jayadeva Hospital, Central Silk Board (interchange-in-progress and possibly the single most infamous junction in the city), and Electronic City itself.

If you're searching "yellow line Bangalore Metro" hoping it'll finally save you from the Hosur Road ordeal, yes, it genuinely will, and BMRCL has even been adding more trains to bring wait times down, which is the closest thing to a Bangalore Christmas miracle.

The Pink Line: Coming Soon to a Commute Near You

Bangalore Metro Pink Line map: Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara
Pink Line: Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara.

The Bangalore Metro Pink Line runs from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara. Its first elevated stretch, Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere (about 7.5 km), was finished and waiting for its final approval and inauguration as of late October 2026, with the underground section through the city centre to follow.

It'll link up with both the Purple and Yellow Lines, which means the network is slowly turning into the spiderweb of convenience Bangalore has always deserved (and complained about not having).

The Blue Line: Yes, The Airport One

Bangalore Metro Blue Line map: the airport metro from KR Puram and Silk Board
Blue Line: the airport metro.

I know, I know.

Everyone wants to know when they can finally take the metro straight to Kempegowda International Airport instead of budgeting an entire half-day (and a small fortune) for the cab ride.

The Blue Line is being built for exactly that, connecting Silk Board to the airport, with BMRCL pointing to a phased opening, and the airport stretch expected around 2027. Check bmrc.co.in for the latest date before you plan around it.

Until then, the closest operational station to the airport is Nagasandra on the Green Line. Not ideal, but hey, progress is progress.

Red, Orange & Grey Lines: The "Ask Me in a Few Years" Lines

These three are approved and on the drawing board, expected to roll out over the next several years as the network expands toward its ambitious goal of over 150 km and more than 160 stations across Bangalore.

Consider them the sequel nobody's rushing, but everybody's waiting for.

What Are the Bangalore Metro Timings and Ticket Prices?

If you're hunting for the Bangalore metro map or the Bangalore metro map PDF, the official BMRCL website ( bmrc.co.in ) is your best and most reliable bet.

It has the latest version, station lists, and interchange points clearly marked, unlike that one WhatsApp forward your uncle keeps sending, which is from three years ago and missing an entire line.

Bangalore Metro Starting Time: Trains generally start around 5:00 AM on weekdays and Saturdays, and a slightly lazier 7:00 AM on Sundays (relatable).

Last trains run until roughly 11:00 PM, with the Yellow Line stretching a little later from RV Road.

Bangalore Metro Ticket Price List: Fares currently range between ₹10 and ₹90 depending on the distance you're travelling, calculated by the number of stations covered.

You can pay via tokens, QR-code tickets, or a smart card (which also gets you a neat little discount, because BMRCL does occasionally reward loyalty).

A quick tip from someone who has been publicly shamed by a beeping gate.

Always keep a little balance on your smart card, because nothing kills your commuter-cool faster than being that person holding up the queue at the gate while everyone behind you sighs collectively.

What's New on the Bangalore Metro Right Now?

The Bangalore Metro news cycle has been unusually exciting lately.

The Yellow Line has been getting extra trains to cut down peak-hour wait times, the Pink Line's first elevated stretch is ready and waiting for its opening date, and Blue Line work is progressing steadily toward giving this city its long-awaited airport metro connection.

If you're the type who checks "Bangalore Metro map latest" updates religiously, keep an eye on BMRCL's official channels.

This network is evolving faster than my patience during a Silk Board traffic jam.
