Nexus Koramangala: What Happened to Forum Mall, and Is It Still Worth Going?

Bengaluru's first proper mall grew up, changed its name and kept its crowd. A clear eyed guide to the building that taught this city what a food court was.

QUICK ANSWER

  • Nexus Koramangala is the old Forum Mall on Hosur Road, renamed after Blackstone bought it in 2022.
  • It is open 10 AM to 10 PM daily; plan ninety minutes to two hours, not a full day.
  • Avoid Saturday evenings, when Hosur Road and the car park are both at their worst.
  • Its strength is the cinema and its location next to Koramangala's restaurants.

Nexus Koramangala on Hosur Road, still called Forum by everyone who grew up here.

“Ask anyone in Koramangala where Nexus is and they will pause. Ask them where Forum is and they will give you directions, a parking tip and a memory.”

• On a name change nobody adopted

Nexus Koramangala, formerly and still popularly Forum Mall, is on Hosur Road in Koramangala, and it was Bengaluru's first large modern mall when it opened in the mid 2000s. It holds a mainstream store mix, a large multiplex, food court and restaurants, is open daily from 10 AM to 10 PM, and its location is both the best and the worst thing about it.

This is the mall that shaped a generation of Bengalureans. For a decade it was where you went on a first date, watched a film, ate at a food court for the first time and bought your first pair of branded jeans. Then Phoenix and Orion arrived with more space and better parking, and Forum became the convenient one rather than the exciting one.

So this guide is honest about where it stands now: what is in it, timings, the parking situation on Hosur Road, the cinema, and who should still make the trip. If you live in Koramangala, HSR, BTM or Indiranagar, the answer is probably still yes.

Is Nexus Koramangala the Same as Forum Mall?

Yes. The mall was rebranded when Nexus Malls took over the portfolio, and the building, the location and the layout are the same. Locals, auto drivers and delivery apps all still use Forum, so use whichever name gets you there, and do not be confused if signage and search results disagree.

The rebrand came with refurbishment and a refreshed store mix rather than a redesign. If you have not been for five years you will recognise the atrium immediately and notice that several anchor tenants have changed.

What Is in Nexus Koramangala Now?

A mainstream store mix, a large multiplex, a department store anchor, food court and restaurants, and the usual electronics, footwear, beauty and accessories. It is a mid size mall by current standards, which means you can cover it properly in ninety minutes, and that is a feature rather than a failing.

What It Is Still Genuinely Good For

  • Cinema. The multiplex remains one of the most used in the city, and for Koramangala and HSR it is the default.
  • A fast shopping errand. You can park, buy one specific thing and leave in forty minutes, which you cannot do at Phoenix.
  • Students and young professionals. The whole Koramangala and BTM catchment lands here, and the mall is priced for it.
  • Rainy evening plans. Film, food and a shop under one roof, five minutes from half of south east Bengaluru.
  • Meeting people. Everyone knows where it is, which is worth more than it sounds in this city.
GOOD TO KNOW

The best food near this mall is not in it. Koramangala has one of the densest restaurant clusters in India within a two kilometre radius. Use the mall for the film and walk out for dinner.

What Are the Timings?

The mall is open from 10 AM to 10 PM every day, with restaurants and the cinema open later. During sales and the festive season the mall extends hours. Individual store hours vary, so call ahead if you are making a trip for one shop.

The crowd pattern is sharper here than at bigger malls because the catchment is young. Weekday afternoons are quiet, weekday evenings are moderate, and Friday and Saturday nights are full, driven by the cinema.

How Bad Is the Parking and the Hosur Road Approach?

The parking is paid, multi level and tight on weekend evenings, and the bigger problem is the road. Hosur Road and the Koramangala approach roads are among the most congested in the city at peak hours, and the mall entry adds to it. This is the single strongest argument for not driving here on a Saturday night.

Getting There Without the Misery

  • Metro plus auto. The newer lines have brought Koramangala and Jayanagar within a short auto ride, which beats driving at peak hour.
  • Auto or cab. For an evening film this is almost always the right answer. You are not parking, and the surge is survivable.
  • If you must drive, go early. Before 5 PM on a weekend, or accept twenty minutes on the ramps.
  • Walk if you are local. From much of Koramangala this is a ten to fifteen minute walk, and the pavements are better than they used to be.
  • Leave before the show ends. The exit surge after a big release is the worst part of the entire experience.

Is It Still Worth Going?

If you live in Koramangala, HSR, BTM, Jayanagar or Indiranagar, yes, for the cinema and quick shopping. If you are coming from Whitefield or the north of the city, no. Phoenix and Orion are bigger and easier, and there is nothing exclusive here worth crossing Bengaluru for.

That is not a criticism. Neighbourhood malls are supposed to serve their neighbourhood, and this one serves a very large and very young one extremely well. What it has lost is the sense of occasion, and no amount of refurbishment brings that back once a city has three bigger malls.

How Does It Compare to Phoenix, Orion and UB City?

It is smaller than all three and more convenient than all three for its own catchment. Phoenix has the widest brand mix, Orion has the setting, UB City has the luxury and the terraces, and Nexus Koramangala has the fact that you can get there in ten minutes and be out in ninety.

Pick by Purpose

  • Quick film and dinner in south east Bengaluru. Nexus Koramangala, then walk into Koramangala for the food.
  • Full family day with a food court. Phoenix Marketcity in the east, Orion in the west.
  • Luxury or a restaurant terrace. UB City in the centre.
  • A walk after dinner. Orion, for the lakefront promenade.
  • One specific errand, done fast. Nexus Koramangala wins this outright.

“Forum stopped being the biggest mall in Bengaluru a long time ago. It never stopped being the most convenient one for the people who live around it.”

• The verdict

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Nexus Koramangala the same as Forum Mall?

Yes. Forum Mall was rebranded as Nexus Koramangala when Nexus Malls took over the portfolio, and it is the same building on Hosur Road in Koramangala. Locals, auto drivers and delivery apps still call it Forum, so either name will get you there.

Where is Nexus Koramangala mall?

On Hosur Road in Koramangala in south east Bengaluru, within easy reach of HSR Layout, BTM Layout, Jayanagar and Indiranagar. Metro stations on the newer lines in the Koramangala and Jayanagar area are a short auto ride away.

What are the Nexus Koramangala timings?

Nexus Koramangala is open from 10 AM to 10 PM, seven days a week, with the restaurants and multiplex running later. Hours extend during sales and the festive season, and individual store timings vary slightly.

Is parking available at Nexus Koramangala?

Yes, paid multi level parking, but it is tight on weekend evenings and the Hosur Road approach is heavily congested at peak hours. For an evening film, an auto or cab is almost always the better decision.

Does Nexus Koramangala have a cinema?

Yes, a large multiplex that remains one of the busiest in the city and is the default cinema for Koramangala, HSR and BTM. Book ahead for weekend shows and plan to leave before the exit surge.

Is Nexus Koramangala worth visiting?

Yes if you live in south east Bengaluru, for the cinema and quick shopping runs. No if you are travelling from Whitefield or north Bengaluru, because Phoenix Marketcity and Orion Mall are bigger, easier to park at and closer to those catchments.

What food is available at the mall?

There is a food court and a set of restaurants inside, but the better eating is outside. Koramangala has one of the densest restaurant clusters in the country within walking distance, so use the mall for the film and eat out afterwards.

How long do I need at Nexus Koramangala?

Ninety minutes to two hours covers the mall properly. It is a mid size building by current standards, which makes it efficient rather than a full day destination.

Which is the oldest mall in Bangalore?

Forum Mall in Koramangala, now Nexus Koramangala, was the city's first large modern mall when it opened in the mid 2000s, and it set the template for everything that followed, including the food court and multiplex combination.
