“Some venues close. Legends just take an intermission.”
• Tariq Sallam, The City 24/7
Ask anyone who was gigging in Bengaluru in the 2010s about The Humming Tree and watch their eyes go a little misty. For six years, it was where independent music in this city found a home, a crowd and a very loud Saturday night.
Then, in September 2019, it shut. And Indiranagar got noticeably quieter, which is not a sentence you hear often.
Good news: it's back. Bigger, louder and still very much about the music.
Quick Information
Bring your ears, your friends and comfortable shoes. Leave your "I only listen to the radio" attitude at the door.
What Is The Humming Tree?
The Humming Tree is a live music venue in Indiranagar, first opened in 2013 by Nikhil Barua. It became one of the most important stages in India for independent artists, the kind of place where you'd catch a band six months before everyone else discovered them.
It closed in September 2019 after about six years. In 2026, it reopened in a purpose-built space, with the same idea at its core: the music comes first.
What's Different About the New Humming Tree?
The new venue is roughly 12,000 sq ft and holds more than 600 people, a big step up from the old space. It comes with a high-fidelity sound and lighting setup and a full food and drinks menu.
- New address. It's now on 100 Feet Road, at 763, HAL II Stage, Indiranagar.
- More room. 600-plus capacity means bigger acts and fewer elbows in your ribs.
- Same spirit. Indie artists, showcases and gigs chosen for the music, not the hype.
What Kind of Gigs Happen Here?
Expect a mix of homegrown indie bands, touring acts from across India and themed nights. The venue runs "THT presents" gigs, and weeknight series like Grassroots Wednesdays give newer acts a stage, which is how great venues build the next generation of headliners.
Follow The Humming Tree on Instagram. Lineups are announced there first, and the small gigs sell out quickly.
Where Exactly Is The Humming Tree?
On 100 Feet Road in Indiranagar, which means you're surrounded by places to eat before the gig and places to argue about the setlist after it. Indiranagar metro station on the Purple Line is the easiest way in, and parking on 100 Feet Road is, well, 100 Feet Road.
