Spettacolare: The All Vegetarian Italian Nobody in Indiranagar Talks About

Fresh fettuccine made on the premises, panzerotti you eat with your hands, and not a gram of meat in the building. Bengaluru has been asking for this for years. So why is nobody talking about it?

“A pure vegetarian Italian restaurant making its own fettuccine is exactly what this city keeps asking for. The execution is the open question.”

• The short version of this review

Spettacolare is an all vegetarian Italian restaurant at 208, Paramahansa Yogananda Road, Stage 2, Hoysala Nagar, Indiranagar, serving handmade pasta, Naples style pizza, panzerotti and desserts, open roughly 12 noon to 11 pm, at around 1,800 rupees for two.

Start with why this should matter. Bengaluru has an enormous vegetarian population and a long list of Italian restaurants where vegetarians pick between a margherita and one penne arrabbiata while everyone else reads the whole menu. A kitchen that builds an entire Italian menu around vegetables rather than working around an absence is a genuinely good idea.

The reporting on the food, when it opened, was warm. Fresh handmade pasta, classic Italian street fare, fettuccine and orecchiette being made in view, homemade seasonal granita, panzerotti stuffed with marinara and mozzarella or ricotta and sauteed mushrooms, and a Canotto style Naples margherita. That is a serious, specific, well informed menu, not a generic Italian one.

The reception since has been thinner and more mixed, including at least one detailed and very unhappy account of a birthday dinner. I will cover that honestly rather than pretend it does not exist, because a restaurant guide that only reports good news is just advertising.

What Is Spettacolare in Indiranagar?

Spettacolare is a fine dining Italian restaurant in Indiranagar serving an entirely vegetarian menu of pizza, pasta and desserts. It sits on Paramahansa Yogananda Road in Hoysala Nagar, which is the quieter residential side of Indiranagar rather than the 100 Feet Road or 12th Main circus.

The opening pitch was clear and, to my mind, correct. The all vegetarian Italian restaurant serves classic Italian street fare, with a menu that is not extensive but covers enough ground to move from Milan to Rome and beyond. A short menu in an Italian restaurant is a good sign, not a bad one. It means the kitchen has decided what it is.

The name, incidentally, is Italian for spectacular. Naming your restaurant Spectacular is a confident move, and I am always going to hold a place to the standard printed on its own sign.

What Should I Order at Spettacolare?

Order the panzerotti, then fresh pasta, then a Canotto style pizza, and start with a granita if it is on. Those are the dishes the kitchen built its identity around and the ones documented in the fullest account of eating there.

  • Panzerotti. Folded dough stuffed with either marinara and mozzarella or ricotta and sauteed mushrooms, fried until crisp. Messy, cheesy and the right way to start.
  • Fresh fettuccine. Made on the premises. Order a carbonara style fettuccine and judge the restaurant on it, because that is the dish that tells you everything.
  • Orecchiette. Also made fresh in house. A pasta shape most Bengaluru Italian restaurants do not bother with, which is a point in their favour.
  • Canotto style Naples margherita. Canotto means the puffed, airy, high hydration crust. If they are executing that properly, it is the best thing on the menu.
  • Seasonal granita. Homemade and seasonal, so it changes. Ask what is on that week.
  • Desserts. A listed strength of the menu. Worth the extra fifteen minutes at the table.

The rule for any restaurant making its own pasta: order the pasta. Paying handmade pasta prices and then ordering a pizza you could get anywhere is how people end up writing mediocre reviews of good kitchens.

“If a kitchen is rolling its own fettuccine in the corner, order the fettuccine. That is the whole reason to be in that room.”

Is Spettacolare Fully Vegetarian, and Does That Matter?

Yes, the entire menu is vegetarian, and it matters more than non vegetarians realise. In most Indian Italian restaurants the vegetarian section is a concession: two pastas, three pizzas and a risotto that was designed last. Here the whole menu is the vegetarian menu, so the kitchen has to make vegetables interesting instead of treating them as the compromise option.

There are vegan options available too, which is worth knowing because Italian food is quietly dairy heavy. Mozzarella, parmesan, ricotta, butter and cream turn up everywhere, so a vegan diner should still have the conversation at the table rather than assuming.

It also opens up a group of diners who cannot eat at most Italian restaurants at all: families where nobody eats meat, people who avoid restaurants with shared kitchens, and anyone who has spent a birthday dinner picking at garlic bread while the rest of the table ate carbonara.

What Do Reviews Say About Spettacolare?

The picture is genuinely mixed and the sample is small. Some guests praise the service and ambience specifically, describing the staff as attentive and professional and the atmosphere as pleasant. One detailed account of a birthday dinner is strongly negative, describing an almost empty room, poorly maintained outdoor plants, poor service, and pizza the reviewer compared to cardboard.

How I read that. A very small number of ratings means no reliable average exists yet, and one bad night written up in detail carries disproportionate weight when there are only a handful of reviews to balance it. That cuts both ways: it is not evidence the restaurant is bad, and it is also not something to wave away.

What I would take from it practically: the criticism was about a quiet, near empty service. Kitchens making fresh pasta are at their best when they are busy and their dough is turning over. Go at a peak time. Weekend lunch or an early weekend dinner is a much better bet than 9 pm on a Tuesday in an empty dining room.

How Does Spettacolare Compare With Other Italian Restaurants in Indiranagar?

It is competing on being entirely vegetarian and making its own pasta, not on reputation or scale. Indiranagar has established Italian names with years of reviews behind them, and a newer, quieter, smaller restaurant on a side road is always going to start from behind.

  • For vegetarians. Spettacolare, clearly. Nowhere else in the neighbourhood gives a vegetarian the full menu.
  • For fresh pasta. A genuine differentiator. Most Indiranagar Italian kitchens use dried pasta and do not pretend otherwise.
  • For a guaranteed good night. The established names carry less risk, because the volume of reviews tells you what you are getting.
  • For a quiet room. Off the main roads, which is a plus if you want conversation and a minus if you want atmosphere.
  • For families. Listed as good for kids, fully vegetarian, with outdoor seating. That combination is useful.

My honest position: this is a restaurant I want to succeed, because the idea is right and the city needs it. Go in with realistic expectations, order the fresh pasta, go when it is busy, and judge it on the plate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Spettacolare in Indiranagar?

208, Paramahansa Yogananda Road, Stage 2, Hoysala Nagar, Indiranagar, Bengaluru 560038. It is on the quieter residential side of Indiranagar rather than on 100 Feet Road or 12th Main.

Is Spettacolare fully vegetarian?

Yes. Spettacolare is an all vegetarian Italian restaurant, so the entire menu, including the pastas and pizzas, is meat free. Vegan options are also available on request.

What is Spettacolare known for?

Handmade fresh pasta including fettuccine and orecchiette, panzerotti, Canotto style Naples pizza and homemade seasonal granita, all on an entirely vegetarian menu.

How much does Spettacolare cost for two?

Around 1,800 rupees for two approximately, per booking platform listings. That is a mid to upper range Indiranagar Italian price point.

What are Spettacolare's timings?

Around 12 noon to 11 pm daily.

What is panzerotti?

Folded and stuffed dough, fried until crisp, essentially a small closed pizza eaten with your hands. At Spettacolare it is offered with marinara and mozzarella, or ricotta and sauteed mushrooms.

Does Spettacolare make its own pasta?

Yes. Fresh pasta including fettuccine and orecchiette is made on the premises, which is unusual among Indiranagar Italian restaurants and the strongest reason to order pasta rather than pizza here.

Is Spettacolare good for families with children?

It is listed as a good place for kids and has indoor and outdoor seating. The fully vegetarian menu also makes it straightforward for vegetarian families.

Does Spettacolare deliver?

Yes, takeaway and home delivery are both available. Fresh pasta travels poorly, so eating in is the better experience if you have the choice.

Is Spettacolare worth visiting?

For vegetarians who want a full Italian menu with handmade pasta, yes. Reviews are thin and mixed, with one detailed negative account, so go at a busy service and order the fresh pasta rather than the safe options.

Listings disagree on timings and the restaurant is on a residential road, so a quick call before you set out is worth the thirty seconds.
